Editor's Description

Yuxin is by far the best Sichuan restaurant in Shanghai. It's also the biggest, spread over the whole third floor of an office building. There are 26 private rooms and seating for twelve million, and they manage to get authentic, complex, spicy Sichuan cuisine right for just about all of them. The chuanbei liangfen -- a misleading rice "jelly" on the menu -- and the tea-smoked duck are among the standouts.

After reading SmSh's very positive take on this restaurant I gave Yuxin a try. If your party consists of less than 5 people, you're seated at one of the 'window seats', enjoying a hospital-style fluorescent bright light from the inner hall around which the restaurant is built. The larger, private rooms do not have this window.
Personnel is constantly walking by, shouting loudly at each other and making other kinds of noise. The food - on the other hand - is quite ok. The duck is indeed delicious, and, should you decide to go there, you have to try the roasted walnuts with sesame seeds.
This place is not suitable for a date, no matter how beautiful the girl is, the fluorescent light is a libido killer. A large party in a private room could enjoy some nice food at a reasonable price.

Cannot agree with the editor review. We got chicken dish without any chicken just nuts and red chillies, then the beef with some fatty pieces of cow and again chillies and again lot of pork fat. For sure was spicy but that's about it. 2nd worse Chinese dinner during my 3 years in China.
