One of the more successful restaurants in town, perfect for bringing guest from out of town and group dinners. The Yunan menu is a perfect if you want something a little different to the regular Chinese fair.

I go to Lost Heaven twice a week and have never been disappointed so far.
Service is...above average in Shanghai but as we all know, far from what one could expect in NYC or Tokyo. Food quality is consistent and I never got food poisoned there (again...I cannot say that about even 10 restaurants in Shanghai!!). Food is always fresh, the menu is always the same and shorter than what most Chinese restaurants offer in China but food is good. Each time we host visitors from abroad we take them there for dinner and this place has been a hit every single time. The tea leaf salad is my favourite dish of all. Portions are of very decent size and prices are very reasonable for what we get.
I love it, and will go there again tonight!

Upon entering the door and greeted by two very nice waitstaff, you can't help but wonder why this restaurant smells like wet, dank towels. Let's hope it was the yak cheese, but I don't believe that was on the menu. The dark interior helped to hide the fact the plates and flatware were also not clean. Made me wonder if the kitchen and food hygiene was up to par.
The decor is quite nice, very dark, and romantically candle lit. It would be perfect for a date or a business dinner, but it is too noisy to hear any conversation. I froze under the air conditioning. So overall restaurant comfort not so good.
Food is surprisingly expensive for what it is. The salad was just too salty and general proportions very small. May be challenging for large group dinners.
Didn't see any of this food served while in Yunnan. Perhaps there is some artistic license used here?
My recommendation: stick with the drinks... although those were a bit overpriced as well.

If you are looking for a place to dine and sweet-talk with your date, Lost heaven is not right for you because it's too noisy that you barely hear what your date says, or your date easily get distracted by other people sitting around you; instead, it's a great place to dine and chat and laugh with your close friends. Perfect for a Friday girls night-out after work, your neighbour wouldn't pay attention to what you gossip about. Food is good in general, price is around RMB150-200 per head.

I can't say enough good things about Lost Heaven. Definitely my most frequented restaurant with both friends and out of town guests. The Decor is great, they've got a groovy bar downstairs. The prices are good value, there is something for everyone on the menu, even those beatnik' vegetarian friends of yours.
We always take guests there, the doorman out front who opens the taxi door kicks off the great service, and it's never let us down yet.
