One of the most unique dining experiences which has become a mainstay in Shanghai for Yunan cuisine, suitable for impressing guest, business dinners and romantic dinners.

Just has one good location, and the thailand style decor, but food is so so not value for money

A nice enough place, decor and ambience very attractive, infact everything is pretty good except the most important thing - the food. Quite mediocre and didn't seem authentically Yunan. One assumes the courtesy girls at the front door dressed in ethnic minority costumes weren't either, but its a nice touch and their smiles pleasant. A nice touch was also some copper dish-covers with a small pipe sticking out from their tops, which bore a resemblence to some SE Asian drug paraphernalia.
We ordered a variety of dishes, none of which arrived in a timely manner... and the gong bao ji ding lacked any kind of spice. Value for money very poor - I except better food for the price. As it is, you are paying for French Concession location, fancy pots and chopsticks, and nice decor. Definately a bit too noisy for a date, but probably a good place for a work dinner, especially if the company is paying for it.

I always bring out of town guests here, as they have very tasty spicy Chinese food, with good service and great decor. Start with kicking off your shoes and reclining on the lounges on the first level for a drink. Then upstairs to the nicely low-lit dining rooms. Definitely try their Thai Zeed (sp?) cocktail. If you like Tom Kha Kai (spicy Thai coconut soup), you will love this drink. I know, it sounds weird, but it is so delicious. I think they mix coconut rum and vodka to make it, so just have one if you can't handle mixing. Great place to take visitors, or night out with friends.

I go to Lost Heaven twice a week and have never been disappointed so far.
Service is...above average in Shanghai but as we all know, far from what one could expect in NYC or Tokyo. Food quality is consistent and I never got food poisoned there (again...I cannot say that about even 10 restaurants in Shanghai!!). Food is always fresh, the menu is always the same and shorter than what most Chinese restaurants offer in China but food is good. Each time we host visitors from abroad we take them there for dinner and this place has been a hit every single time. The tea leaf salad is my favourite dish of all. Portions are of very decent size and prices are very reasonable for what we get.
I love it, and will go there again tonight!

Upon entering the door and greeted by two very nice waitstaff, you can't help but wonder why this restaurant smells like wet, dank towels. Let's hope it was the yak cheese, but I don't believe that was on the menu. The dark interior helped to hide the fact the plates and flatware were also not clean. Made me wonder if the kitchen and food hygiene was up to par.
The decor is quite nice, very dark, and romantically candle lit. It would be perfect for a date or a business dinner, but it is too noisy to hear any conversation. I froze under the air conditioning. So overall restaurant comfort not so good.
Food is surprisingly expensive for what it is. The salad was just too salty and general proportions very small. May be challenging for large group dinners.
Didn't see any of this food served while in Yunnan. Perhaps there is some artistic license used here?
My recommendation: stick with the drinks... although those were a bit overpriced as well.
