fantastic restaurant. beats lost heaven (which is already quite good) in terms of food and prices.

I took some new to SH friends there for dinner this past week. They chose it from the list of restaurants I suggested based on the very cool name. I am glad they did! It was my first time to the new location, and they have made a pretty smooth transition. The space is cool, it makes you feel like you are really on a treasure hunt by the time you get back there. The food is wonderful and satifying, especially the over-the-bridge noodles and BBQ fish and zucchini (courgette in French?). The mint salad was a bit over the top and very ma-la 麻辣. Pair the tasty food with the cheap and extensive beer list and southern barbarian is on my list of favorites, for sure.

Great food and nice atmosphere! Delicious BBQ fish wrapped in lemon grass, fava beans mash, potato spicy mash and so many other dishes. My favorite place lately!!!

Good chicken wings and that's about it folks. I heard about how good it was and was quite disappointed after eating there. Pork was bland. Mashed potatoes were nothing special. The Guo qiao mi xian soup base was excellent. For the same price, you can get better food else where.

Hi, I went to the Southern Barbarian with some friends. There’s been a lot of good buzz about the place, but when we got there and ate, we are all quite disappointed. The chicken wings were good – but that was it. The other food and soups were nothing special compared to other restaurants in the same price range. I will not go there again. Beside the southern Barbarian is a dongbei restaurant – the food there is better and cheaper.

This place has the best barbequed chicken wings I've ever tasted. They're spicy and amazingly more-ish, as was everything we tried -- even, amazingly, barbequed chinese chives. The bbq beef was great too. Potato pancakes were like a Yunnan version of chips and were gobbled up amazingly fast by our table. We all drooled over the beef and mint casserole, and really liked the halloumi-like cheese. The noodles were just right for a cold winter's day too, especially the eel and mint noodles (sounds gross but tastes unbelievable, especially the whole garlic cloves that are infused with the thick broth.) Definitely will be a regular here.
