One of the most popular Chinese joints for locals and foreigners alike, this Hunan-style restaurant is always packed despite a cafeteria-sized main dining area and at least a dozen "private" rooms. Food is high on flavor and will leave your eyes watering.

After many visits over the past 6 years what continues to bring me back to this restaurant is the consistency. Each visit the food is consistently good, they don't often miss on the flavors and the choices. The spare ribs great, the spicy bull frog, great. Many people associate this place as the favorite of tourists, after taking many of my Chinese friends here I can tell you they are regulars and they agree that the food is consistently good.

The atmosphere while casual is quite suitable for the type of food being served. I like to bring foreign guests that enjoy a bit of spice and most of them rave about the place after eating here.

I challenged a group of Americans that the ribs at this restaurant maybe the best I have had anywhere. They scoffed at me and agreed to try one. Most Americans think the ribs from the USA are always the best. After they had one, they agreed they were good. After they had two they agreed they were good. After eating many plates of ribs, they agreed they may be the best.

In any case the food is delicious and the atmosphere pleasant.

Very good food! Pretty good atmosphere, although a bit cold in some corners.
First went there with some Japanese friends (there's a lot of Japanese, as well as other foreigners there), and then took my wife there for a second time. She really liked the food, as she liked spicy food.
The only real problem is that it is a bit on the expensive side, not terribly so, but we dishes out 180 RMB for just two people for dishes that are not that big. Still, food was good and a very good place to take friends and family to! Just be careful of the spicy!
    Spicy delicious Hunan food!

I have been to the restaurant a lot of times now and I am fascinated again everytime I go there. The food is Hunan style, so it means its a spicy. My absolute favorite are the spare ribs there, they are perfectly cooked with local spices. The beans with bacon and eggplant are really good as well as the fried lotus root. For desert I can definately recommend the fried bananas.
I always went there with a lot of friends, as the atmosphere is really nice to get together and as it is food sharing you can try different foods the more people you are.
If you like spicy delicious food, helpful waitresses and a nice atmosphere you should not miss this restaurant on your stay in Shanghai!

Everything we had was amazing. Honestly, we have had too many things to list. The only one thing I didn't care for were the green beans (chopped into tiny pieces). It was kind of a sour dish, not my favorite, BUT DAAANG everything else was sooo good. The decor is nothing fancy, but doesn't bother me. It's a very casual venue. Just so the ladies know what to wear :) I think the eating in option has a better selection than ordering through Sherpa. I noticed some things were missing from Sherpa's menu. Two thumbs up for this one.
