I got dragged here with friends for a festive dinner. The atmosphere was lovely - great lighting, beautiful mood. However, if you are looking for a nice setting, I instead recommend stocking up on candles from Ikea and cooking a nice chicken breast at home instead of paying the 2000 RMB bill our group of 4 ended up with.
First, the menu is entirely in French. Being translated by a waiter who can barely speak that language or English, for that matter. I get it: there are lots of Frenchies in Shanghai. But having to ask the waiter what every item on the menu is while he stammers trying to remember is plain annoying.
I got the chicken, or rather Le Poulet Roti. It was very good, but not worth the 180 RMB price tag. Nothing that interesting going on there - just a nice roast chicken with a creamy sauce and some mushrooms. If that's your jam, I guess there's nothing to complain about. It was just very standard issue French cuisine with no "kick."
The only part of the meal that was certifiably awesome was the dessert. We got this salted caramel ice cream that was wonderful. Not a terribly generous scoop, but truly excellent.
Anyway, I guess if you want a standard-issue French place, go there? It reminded me of one of the places that grandparents might enjoy - overpriced standards catering to elderly tastes with no surprises.

My first encounter here was just great! The staff took time to explain menu items, service was prompt and the food quality was EXCELLENT! A little on the pricy side, but you can overlook this once you consider the quality of the food, service and the short escape to another place as you sit inside what could be any local restaurant in Paris which is frequented not by tourist, but by the local Parisians! While this might not be an everyday kind of restaurant, it surely is recommended for that special night out!

Disappointed... Although the environment and overall atmosphere is really, really good... The food and wine was not on the level of price!
This time, I tried the feasan, a new dish there replacing the roast chicken and I was disappointed. In my preview life of baker, it was said: "if you want to do better bread than your neighbor, put more salt in the dough..." that was my feeling about the just tender feasan. The sauce was too liquid, an the presentation really, really childish! ( a shame)
Foie GRAS was good, but side bread was too, or not enough something.
Desert : i ordered the fondant au chocolat, and it was really nothing special both in term of taste as in term of presentation, disappointing as I love fine pastry....
Butter and breads were good.
The wine list is rich, but no one was there to provide advice, so I decided to order a gauby, vieilles vignes, as I had a wonderful memory of this wine at the same place some time ago, unfortunately it was not available... It happens. Then I was advised by the waiter for a said to be similar wine, which was not once in my glass, my nose and my mouth.
In term of service... There is a protocol in french restaurant:
- first you seat and order l'aperitif,
- then you check the menu and order food then wine,
- then you drink l'apero, taste the wine, start to eat, drink some wine, take digest, be happy... This time the waiter mixed all this...
- we seated,
- then order food, order apero, start to eat, drink apero, order wine, finish eating, tast the wine, get up and go....
I would say that Franck knows what are the good simple products as cheese, coldcuts, pates, wine, but when it's time to process food, it's out of control... Disappointing when you spend more than 2000rmb per head. Luckily I was invited by a supplier but I lost my face while trying to promote my French pride in such an average place...! I'm glad that at least no one was arrogant, i would have not accepted... I'm French too and I know well how to complain...
