Down Home Kitchen is authentically Shanghainese. Food is really good. Its stewed pork dish is perhaps even better than Yuan Yuan's (红烧肉). Of course, being authentically Shanghainese, don't expect the best service. It's not terribly bad, but the waiters are not initiative and when asking them for more hot water for tea or for the rice, they take a pretty long time to get to us, sometimes forgetting that we had asked for the items.(If you highlight that you are a student, it may work to your disadvantage!) Things that you should try are the Xiao Huang Yu, that's wrapped up like a spring roll. The fish dishes have no bones (mostly) so it's good for those who don't like the boney freshwater fish that's common here. Decor is very nice. Good for phototaking.
