Great innovative tapas (try the foie gras), delicious and rather unorthodox paella, good wines at very reasonable price, cozy atmosphere, nice layout (curtains falling from the ceiling to make partition), diligent service, very friendly cook. Went 4 times, always great.
There's a different menu at lunch. And it's a steal.
two thumbs up.
i think it is a new very interesting option in the city. The tapas are modern, tasty and diferent. The wine list has a very complete sellection of wines of Spain and Portugal, provably the best in Shanghai. Definately represents the food of the Spain of today. I will definately go back, to enjoy tapas and wine on the beautiful garden!
hmmm, perhaps any Spanish fellow can explain where in Spain you get that type of Paella they are serving - my memory about paella is different (withou being an expert).
As the menu is so "non standard" I have some difficulty to remember ... we had something cooked with chocolate and after that the "juicy paella" (sorry dont know if it is exactly the name) ... both tasted bitter in a strange way - so we were not very amused.
Ambiance is fantastic - the menu ...hmmm ... only quite fancy paellas as main dish.
I do not know if this one will survive after the shanghai typical first hype.
Dont need to be a critical food to know that el willy is the most fashionable restaurant at the moment. With no booking it might be difficult to you to find a table. Ive been there twice and still have to go many more days, I dont wanna miss one tapa of this excellent chef. Very nice aproach to spanish cousine, dont forget to order the iberian coldcut table with some nice Torres red wine.
At last there is a creative, modern and inovative cousine in Shanghai! Due to my critical work, I was really amazed with the quality of the food, do not miss the scallop in ceviche with its creamy avocado and crispy shallots, as well as the special paella! Not only the food, but also the service and the air running on the restaurant delighted me with a very nice experience.
In my opinion is one of the best restaurants in Shanghai. As i live close, i have been a few times in its short life, and always had the best food. I was about time that Shanghai has a Chef owned restaurant that represents what is happening in the Spanish food scene today. I highly recoment the beef cheek cooked five hours with banana and passionfruit, also the juicy paellas like in Catalonia, specially the duck and the lobster! GREAT PLACE, AMAZING FOOD AND VERY GOOD SERVICE!
Went there last weekend because of the promising review, but left not too satisfied overall. The best part (and the easiest dish not to mess up) was the bruschetta, other than that the lamb chops were under cooked, and not balanced with the garlic eggplant. As was the rissotto which was too hard on the inside, not chewy as it should be. Small menu, limited choices on dishes. With some time this place could get better, for now stay away. Peace.
