My husband surprised me with a date at Issimo for our anniversary last week, and the place did not disappoint! I have to say I liked it BETTER than Salvadore's much-hyped The Kitchen, and unless you're looking to sit outside (or live in Pudong) it's significantly more convenient, too! When we sat down at our table, the manager immediately brought over 2 glasses of champange, a pleasant (and lovely!) touch. The waiter spoke fluent English, was attentive but not overbearing, and gave us some of the best service I have had in Shanghai. The food was excellent -- we ordered everything from appetizers and pizza to pasta. (If I had to do it over again though, I wouldn't have ordered the fried mozzarella... the breading was too thick.) Portions were decent sized and we had leftovers to take home, as well. Certainly not a cheap restaurant, but a definite place to impress without completely breaking the bank. Enjoy!

They managed to put out the flames last fall when the Jia hotel almost burned down. Now Issimo is reigniting them for Valentine's Day with a menu for two including a grilled seafood combination with a rose and mint infusion or oven-roasted beef tenderloin with porcini mushrooms on soft polenta and four other courses. 1088rmb+15% per couple. Special rates are also available for the Jia Hotel's suites.

Issimo is arguably Shanghai's finest Italian joint. Sleek, sexy, and in a fancy boutique hotel to boot. Dinner gets pricey, but lunch is a real deal, when 128rmb can net an appetizer, pizza or pasta, dessert and coffee. Bump it up to 158rmb if you want a main course as well. Noon to 2.30pm.
