Editor's Description
Two floors of traditional-style Chinese decor (think dark wood on dark wood) create quiet Zen-like atmosphere. The covered garden out back is a quaint, tree-filled spot and the highlight of Lapis Lazuli until management decided it was time to impose "minimums."

I visited Lapis Lazuli for the last time yesterday. I was confronted with some of the worst service I've experienced in 15 months of China. The hostess gave me the once over and seemed displeased by my appearance. When I requested to sit outside she informed me it was too hot. I said that was all right - I wouldn't be there long just for an ice cold beverage and to read my book. She sneered. I waited in the garden for 15 minutes. No one ever came out with a menu. I got up, and walked past the hostess/waitress who was yapping on her mobile and didn't even try to stop me. Never again.

I used to hang out here quite a lot as many of my car-driving friends enjoy coming here as there is usually parking available outside on the street. The service is pretty good and the food and coffee isn't bad either. When the weather is good, the terrace outside is a good place to chill.

I hate writing bad reviews. Before I went to Lapis with a group of friends I quickly read up on the reviews and as you can see its quite a mixed bag.
I have to say it was one of the most dissapointing experiences I had in a long time.
The place seemt to have become a hang out for Chinese Businessman who entertain each other holding their loud longwinded speeches just sipping Longjin Tea enveloped by a cloud of smoke despite the non smoking signs.
As for the menu it would go something like this Chinese Style;
Frozen Margaritha served in a sweet tiny class 50Yuan
1000 Bone thinly sliced Salmon with no side 160Yuan
Duck bathing in sickly sweet Plum sauce 120Yuan
Bacon dressed up as Beef Rib in Chilly Sauce not Ginger 150RMB
Pizza to hard to cut by saw 100RMB
The list goes on.
As for service I havent come across anything so rude and argumentative for a long time.
I like to mention our group table consistet of Asian and Westeners alike and we are an agreeable bunch.

I used to go there once a while to hang out with my friends to relax. Oh well, I recently paid a visit;left with huge disappointment caused by the waiters' terrible service.
The series of disenchantment really begun from the server who seated us, let's call him as "A". It took A quite some times to give us the menu and got my drink order right with attitude attached. Then there was a group of caucasian came to have desserts and wine I supposed. His treatment towards those people was somehow, quite different. When we finished our food and ready for the bill, he came back and just mentioned the amount of the bill, without even including the original bill receipt. Now, would you ever think of visiting this place again? For sure I won't..

I swear I won't go back to to this place ever again, and I swear I will tell all 56 expats in our company never to patronize this place ever! Today, I took 9 new expats in our company to try the place; we have a bday cake with us and the stupid hostess came up to tell us that if we celebrate and eat that cake inside the restaurant, she is gonna charge us RMB 100.00. Geez, what the hell was that? 56 expats in our company. And each time one of us has a bday, we go to any resto in shanghai and they let us have our cake. Geez, its not like we have a pack of beer or a bottle of red wine. Its just a freaking cake! Anyways, what's done is done and we have moved to eat someplace else, which would let us have our cake... and the celebration. Stupid hostess even said that if its not a bday celeb, and we have a cake, she will charge us RMB 200.00. Where the hell did that come from again? Rule of thumb, honey: "No bday, no cake", that simple. See, they dont just hire unreasonable hostess there; she is even that stupid! Geez....

Obviously, never cast pearls before swines. We have been to Lapis Lazuli many times and we keep on going back! We found the cross-cultural decor cozy and befitting the fusion menu. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The food is great and the Kir Royale perfect.

We go here all the time. Nice atmosphere. The decor is cool and the food is great - I get my seafood risotto fix there...delicious. A good fusian type menu with mix of meat and fish with an italian/mediterranean slant. Never had a bad meal here.

To be honest, I really like the dessert in there.
Ive been there for so many times, but lately, I must say that the service's getting bad.
One of the waiter is really really rude.
When I asked for my bill, he just rudely gave it to me --- like throw it on the table.
And I was like shocked by his attitude. He didn't say sorry, so that's obviously did on a purpose.
I'm really disappointed with the service. I don't think I'll go back there again for the food or whatever it is. I know I'm not white people, but do I really deserve this kind of service in here?
This is like discrimination.
