Editor's Description

This newly refurbished rendition of Element Fresh has a lounge-like second floor but is otherwise the same. Open kitchen, fresh food, noticeably clean, slow service, pricey.

the food was not as good as i heard, nothing to get excited about. i even tried a few times because my wife enjoys the food. the best thing i had there was the big american breakfast for sure.

I love their chicken salad sandwiches and smoothies (the large smoothies are huge, maybe .5 liter or more)

there is something about being able to order a salad and a smoothie in shanghai, isn't there? i like element fresh a lot, despite its triteness, despite its yuppie ambiance, despite its hyped-up californian pr campaign. there's something even more to be said when you can hop over to the adjacent paul following, for a chocolate roulade to make up for the calories you just conserved.

There were five of us that had finished up a meeting in the Portman and decided to try out the new Spring/dinner menu at Element Fresh. 3 of the people were potential business partners from overseas but we needed something quick and light so we could get them to the airport on time. Anyway, to start off we ordered the 4 Coronas deal (Hoegaarden would of been better) with the steamed black mussels and they were a great appetizer. We moved onto a couple of plates of the grilled Sea Scallops and WOW! They were huge! The best scallops we've had in China by far. Very tasty and worth every jiao. The main dishes arrived 1.) Roasted Cornish Hen (aka Spring Chicken) had some kind of berry sauce with it and it was delicious. A fantastic dish. 2.) Pork chop (they call it a t-bone but not sure where they get that) was large, juicy and cooked to perfection. Another fantastic dish. I wish I could say we had an exceptional meal but we were quite dissapointed with the beef situation. 3) Seared beef filet w/scallops(fantastic scallops again!) wasn't so good. The beef wasn't flavorful or juicy and seemed quite tough and overdone. Not sure if it was Chinese beef but sure tasted/felt like it. 4.) Pan-fried Filet mignon steak sandwich. This is quite a misleading write-up as it looks and sounds fabulous but was VERY disappointing. The meat was nowhere near a filet mignon cut, no flavor, was poorly cooked (raw in the middlle) and just a bad piece of meat. The smoothies and the salads were fantastic and we ended the dinner with a good experience. I highly recommend you try the new menu.

Went to the Portman branch as it's close to our office block.. heard many people mention Element Fresh so I gave it a whirl!..what is all the fuss about? OK the food was reasonable but far fram extraordinary! For the price it made less of an impression.. don't get me wrong I'm no cheapskate and am happy to pay whatever for a dish just so long as it is worthwhile. That said the smoothies were excellent.

I like their "Big American breakfast" i am fan of them :)but recently they been serving really bad breakfast potatoes, (they were black inside) and looked and tasted bad, also the sausage was under cooked and the french toast was really soggy. I hope you guys can make sure the cookers/waiters notice it when it arrives at my table and improve. Because I asked the waitress, "would you eat this for breakfast"? She obviously noticed and said no.

In any rainy night in Shanghai you will experience the extreme crisis of taxi shortage. The night my bf and I visited ‘Element fresh’ was not exception. We decided to eat there (1) because it was just nearby the hotel I was staying at and (2) because I liked its posh atmosphere. The see-through exterior of ‘Element fresh’ and modish furniture inside always caught my sight whenever I passed by. The clear crystal windows surround all around the restaurant that you can always see well-groomed business people packing the place from outside. We ordered vegetable sushi as for the starter, Ravioli and today’s soup, which was onion soup. I had mimosa and my bf had kir for the drink. I didn’t like vegetable sushi to start with. It was 6 pieces of chunk of rice. I could barely see or taste vegetable inside. Rice was too stuffed that I was having hard time to swallow it. My bf loved it. (But he loves any Asian food as long as he has soy sauce along with it) I just happen to know that I could have better ‘rice wrapped in seaweed’ stuff in other countries at cheaper price. Others were OK. You cannot ask more than what you pay for. The dinner was inexpensive. I must say that in sum ‘Element fresh’ was good. I would not, however, go again for dinner but maybe for lunch.

Went and had their scallops upon recommendation of a friend and am pleased to say they were fantastic. We also tried the spring chickens and found them to be quite delicious as well. Looks like we found a new place for a nice dinner. Can't say I enjoyed the steak but its pretty much impossible to find a good steak in this town anyway so not much lost here....

Went to the Lujiazui Element Fresh for dinner a few weeks ago. Location is good, patio overlooking the bund, nice decor and atmosphere inside. Food was good, nothing spectacular, ok prices. Service was... random. Missing cutlary, main courses coming 30 minutes after other main courses, side dishes arriving at the end of the meal. Waitresses were friendly and tried hard, though.
