The first and original outlet, this newly refurbished rendition of Element Fresh has a lounge-like second floor but is otherwise the same. Open kitchen, healthy sandwiches / salads / smoothies, int'l environment, a touch pricey. And extremely popular.

I'm a 'power user' of EF (in-house and delivery), so it pains me to note that their delivery food quality is changing. Specifically the portions are getting smaller and smaller. I guess I'm not the only one to notice this! For instance, the humus used to be a practical feast for two, but now it's a snack for one. I called and asked about it, but I was told that their supplier counts out the carrot sticks now. Rubbish! EF is now selling stuff from second-party vendors, marking it up, and making more money, and that's their excuse? Airlines do the same for their food...

Also, has anyone ever order their slice of carrot cake? A small sliver of cake for 36rmb? Well, Wagas/Baker & Spice offers a pastry, a cappachino and the daily paper for 28RMB. HoF has infinitely more interesting desserts for less. Come on EF, you're getting way too greedy. You have us expats hostage here, and you're taking advantage. We have some choices, but we like your food and hate feeling ripped off. Shame on you, EF! Greedy greedy greedy!

Great food - very slow service - 2 people before us left because no one waited on them. But they refused to take American Express Centurion !! AMEX's best card ! I suspect they don't want to pay AMEX fees- then don't advertise you take the card !

So If you plan to use AMEX don't go to EF - It is the typical Chinese game - pretend you are world class but then reject world class cards like AMEX with a higher fee. To bad actually since the food is excellent ! Just that management is well...... not.

I used to LOVE EF, and i mean that with a passion. But the last few months have been different....i don't know what it is. EF is good in that it tastes like food back home, their salads and sandwiches are mountains and really fresh. But...i can't help but think the portions of the entrees are getting smaller and the prices are creeping up (er hello mac n cheese!)!!

I love the location of this EF, and the menu is good, there is something for everyone and the service has always been great in my opinion - nothing is ever a problem if you want to switch ingrediants in one thing or add something extra.

The breakfast sets are the best value and the atmosphere is always relaxing and chilled.

But now i take or leave EF....

I heard about Element Fresh on LinedIn. On my current trip to Shanghai I visited its Portman store twice. It was an utter disappointment.

On my first visit I ordered the Manhattan chowder and the Floridian salad. The chowder was very bland and the salad was full of chewy leafy greens only fit a livestock. I had to wait my check for ten minutes.

On my second visit I ordered a Vietnamese roll and a beef fillet. I was told the fillet was sold out. So, I ordered the Australian rib-eye, and that was sold out, too. In the end I ordered the lemon chicken, which was salty and chewy

I've been looking all over Shanghai for a healthy place to eat, and recently visited Element Fresh.I had the Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Tropical Storm Smoothie. It's pretty hard to find a good smoothie place in Shanghai but this place fits the bill. About 28 kuai for this awesome blend. Im very tight with my money but i would gladly shell out cash for another round. The chicken salad sandwich was was amazing! (about 68 kuai) It came with bacon but you can ask for them to hold it. Overall very good restaurant, waiters are on you but very friendly, great view of west nanjing street, but a little pricey.
