Mardi Gras's casual French food in a stuffy lanehouse is nothing special, but the place has developed a bit of a reputation for excellent cocktails and stoic attitude, courtesy of the upstairs bar and its resident Japanese bartender.

One of those typically obnoxious things you find in Shanghai where the owner of a really nice space hires a foreign chef and then sources crap ingredients and marks it up 100% and sells it as luxury to locals. The space is beautiful--first two floors of an old restored art deco mansion--but the food is a rip. The service is clueless. Basically just for Chinese who don't know the difference.
