Mardi Gras's casual French food in a stuffy lanehouse is nothing special, but the place has developed a bit of a reputation for excellent cocktails and stoic attitude, courtesy of the upstairs bar and its resident Japanese bartender.

Would be funny if the joke wasn't on the customer. First time in Shanghai I felt stupid when getting my order. 35RMB for about 10cl of a soft drink (they serve it in a narrow glass filled with ice, that's about the amount of actual drink you get), 48RMB for a hot chocolate, twice the price around the city, 38RMB for a pressed orange juice served in an IKEA glass without any presentation effort. Food is plain, decor is not exceptional, potential for a lot better. Service is... well... typical...
As a french guy, it really pisses me off this place has a french name. I can hear the usual bashing about how pretentious french places are... Damn you Mardi Gras...
