Mi Thai is a modern Thai restaurant, dressed down in rustic minimalism, in the 195 Anfu Lu Wagas Compound. The food swings between classics and Western standards with Thai flavors. Mi Thai is split into two rooms -- spot lighting, open kitchen, scuffed wood flooring. It's sparse. Rustic. Still comfortable. Damage is about 200rmb - 250rmb per person. With wine, it's a little more, but the list is reasonable.
Now, I'm not saying that I have the final and last word in Thai cuisine, but I do like to think that I'm a fairly good food critic . . . especially when it comes to Thai food! My boyfriend and I have made it our mission to try out every Thai place in Shanghai and so far (we've hit most joints in the city) Mi Thai has got to be our absolute favorite! While curries start at about 60 kuai and go up depending on what type of meat, seafood, etc you have, I felt it was well worth the money. We ordered your basic red curry, chicken and beef satay, minced and spicy chicken/lettuce wraps. Not only was the food and the flavors amazing and spicy, but they brought everything out to us in ten minutes and all at once! I can't even remember the last time that happened to me in Shanghai. I also really liked that it was a smaller, giving it a much more intimate feeling than say Coconut Paradise (which is another fave!) but I really loved the open kitchen concept, no funny business there:) While Mi Thai is a little bit more expensive than other thai places I do think in the end that it was worth it. The only maybe negative thing or more constructive criticism is that they were a little slow on refilling our drinks but other than that, no real complaints. Great place!
We went here in the afternoon for Brunch.. its a great time because there was no one in there around 4pm.
I love the decor in the place - modern, dark and cosy but airy.
Menu is pretty simple - not expect super fancy thai menu .. or if you are really into Thai food - there is not so much choice. But what they do have - is good and tasty.
It's overall - decent food, great place to catch up with friends, relax and just have a wonderful afternoon.
Staff were super attentive which is great especially during the quiet time.
I went to Mi Thai when it first opened and was impressed, but had never got round to revisiting. Tonight we felt like Thai, so decided to see if they had a free table at around 9.30. They did. What followed was one of those rare Shanghai dining experiences. Service was great, food was delicious, decor was fab, and the atmosphere was buzzing.
We started with the chicken and beef satay (nice quality meat, chunky satay sauce) and beef chili salad (nice and spicy). Then for mains we shared a red beef curry and a sauteed chicken, rice, and grilled asparagus. The beef curry was one of the best I've had in Shanghai. The meat came in longish chunks, instead of the flat pieces or skinny slivers that are customary. It tasted like really good steak.
My coconut juice came in a shaved coconut, which is always fun.
Mi Thai was packed, and it looks like it's doing really well. I will definitely be back,
