I have not yet been to Madison for dinner but have been a couple of times for brunch at this popular spot. You need to book early as tables fill up before the weekend. Also be aware that this is not exactly health food that they are serving up. Rich, decadent and delicious food is what awaits you. The scotch eggs served with full-grain mustard are a delight. It would be nice if they had the option of cold serving as well but I'm going to just keep coming back like a junkie as long as they've got these on the menu. Burgers were juicy and well cooked and nicely cut into bite-sized sharing portions. The French toast sticks were a nice surprise and one that would like to try again. I've always liked this bright, airy space back when it was Vargas Grill. The new owners have wisely decided to keep those lovely circular booths and the general layout intact while making a few decorative changes here and there. As previously noted, I'd like to see the coffee setup change as this is an integral part of my brunch. Larger serving size in something other than those ridiculous conical glasses would be a huge bonus. They arrive burning hot, hard to hold and get cold instantly. Next project is to try one of these much talked-about Sunday dinners.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. Perhaps I was too hungry, no matter as the portions were set so small we positively looked forward to the cheese plate which, surprise, would leave even a rat starved. I think from the reviews we would have to look forward to the brunch, but as we were so disappointed this time round I think we'll skip. Service was shocking, he dropped the mushroom rice ball, said 'shit' in English (I would) and hurried off to get another one with no apology.
I'm afraid to say this place will probably not be around this time next year.

Brunch is a master deal. The quality and uniqueness of this food does not come easily at that price. It's the same price you would pay at a place like element fresh and way, way more exciting! I loved the massive booth my boyfriend and I were seated in, and with so many dishes to try you need a big table to fit it all!

The shrimp burger had fantastic juicy shrimps battered and fried into a patty, sandwiched between fluffy brioche. The scotch duck egg could have had a softer centre, but it is definitely an interesting dish with great flavour and textures. One of my favorites was the French eggs loaded with mushrooms on top of a flaky pastry that becomes pleasantly soggy under the creamy eggs. Is Austin a pastry chef as well? Because the croissant we ordered was probably the best I have had. Ever.

The only thing that I was less impressed with were the beverages. Coffee is over priced, but you dont mind paying for the drinks when you are so consumed with amazing food. Thats sneaky Madison. Very sneaky

I'm probably going to be here every weekend now until I try every item. This food is amazing and the value is unbeatable. GO.

Madison is one of my favourite restaurants in town. My wife and I go there frequently. When it comes to value for money, I think it is quite frankly top notch.
Admittedly first impressions (the elevator) aren't great. But who really cares what the entrance looks like. One of the best aspects of the restaurant is the consistently excellent service. Waiters are always on hand to discretely top up your glass. They are helpful and friendly, and the few times something hasn't been available on the menu, the kitchen has kindly given us something complimentary.
The food is what keeps us coming back. Their home made Gnochi is delicate and delicious. The BEST meal we have had there though, is the Sunday Suppers. The chef Austin will decide on some sort of theme, and then do a multiple course meal. For 300rmb all you can eat, 350rmb including beer. These change from week to week, but the Tenderloin steak and king prawn cocktails were a particular highlight.
My advice, definitely check it out. And its perfect if you get some mates together and head down for a Sunday dinner.
