I'm very in love with this place. Although it appears to be quite corporate and a fairly dated luxury hotel facility, the concept of it being the first foreign restaurant in Shanghai is really brought through with the decor and the food. They have a good wine selection and quite a varied menu that goes far beyond a steak house.
The mousse foie gras has a large, buttery layer of fat bordering the patte with little toasts on the side, it is what you would expect from a place like this, and it was very good. I've heard the steaks here are pretty topnotch, but when I saw a section of "Famous" dry madras currys, I just had to try it. Like really? Curry in a 5 star western restaurant? It's either going to be crap or it's going to be blow your mind amazing. I took the chance it it was AMAZING. Massive bowl of beautifully tender chicken and potatoes covered in a dry, crumbly curry coating with a side platter of topping galore such as coconut, raisins, pickled vegetables etc. etc. It was so entertaining to eat! And the curry sauce on the side brought a whole new level of flavour and texture on top of it all. My dining partner had a roasted chicken with olives, it was very good but not nearly as exciting as my curry. This place is so british and so historical. You can't help but love it and it's totally worth the price.

My boyfriend and I went to Jimmy's kitchen last weekend and we looveed that place so much.
We loved the decor, it's classic and very masculin.
The service was great. The waiters and managers are very attentive, they were checking with us all the time and try to make a conversation with every table. Answering and explaining to us about the history of the restaurant, at some point I thought it's a bit too much, but anyway, I enjoyed the experience.
Now, lets talk about the food:
My boyfriend ordered medium rare rib eye steak with bearnaise sauce. The meat was pink and sooo tender. I almost forgot that meat can be thaat tender and soo juicy. My boyfriend thought that the bearnaise sauce was okay. good but not crazy.
I ordered chicken kiev- A fried chicken with butter mashed potato.
Once I cut the chicken, I was soo suprised seeing the juicy liquid coming out of the chicken. soo tasty. the chicken was also tender and soo juicy too. ahh.. talking about this makes me drooling.
For side dishes, we ordered potato gratin- a big thumb for this, and sautee mushroom- was good too.
The baked potato was so so and the creamy spinach was okay too. It's good actually but maybe I felt abit too much for my dish.
Oh.. we also ordered the lemon bisque.. oh my my... it was divine.
Thick, creamy and it has a chunk of lobster in it and the cheese too..
My only regret for that night was that we didnt save our stomach for the desserts. We saw the desserts from differents tables and it looks amazing..
so yes.. Jimmy's kitchem. we will definetly coming back and next time, we promised we will try ure desserts.

Have wanted to go to Jimmy`s Kitchen since i heard that it was opening but thought best to let them get their "honeymoon" out of the way before venturing forth.
Im always wary about restaurants in hotels, there is just a stigma about them..anyway i digress. Warmly welcomed and greeted. The service here from start to finish was 100% impeccable and its not very often you can say that in Shanghai. Unobtrusive but still there when you need them, delightfully knowledgeable about the food AND wine and even some of their recommendations were spot on.
The food. French Onion Soup. Big bowl full to brimming with onions and broth and topped with a large thick peice of bread which had a mountain of the correct cheese on it (I cant spell it correctly but its the one that begins with G). Ceasar Salad. Beautifully presented, fresh, crisp, tasty. I would have liked larger shavings of Parmesan on it but everyone is different and im just fickle. Steaks were ordered for main course. By the open Kitchen they have the dry ageing humidifier (if that`s the correct name) which was packed with some quality Aus steaks. Once you see them its kind of hard to order anything different from the main course menu. Im very simple when it comes to my steak. I like Rib Eye, I liked it cooked "Bleu" with a touch of seasoning. My 14 ounce beauty was cooked by Chef Cyril the French Exec Chef there at Jimmy`s Kitchen perfectly. Add some sauteed assorted mushrooms, a very creamy and rich mashed potato (a couple of drops of truffle oil on top of the spuds would have made that a 10/10) Some green beans and bacon and enough different mustard`s and sauces to satisfy the fussiest of diners. Was full but our waitress did recommend their Baked Alaska and im glad we did. Its bigger and better than M On The Bunds. Its table served with the flaming sauce, its divided up for you and what is better than thick creamy ice cream enveloped in meriunge and covered in fresh blueberries and Cherries.
As a side note. My friend ordered so i didn`t really see the menu well enough to give prices on the items we had. And lastly. Jimmy`s is not just Steak. I saw Crispy Pork Knuckle and Lobster Thermidor on the table next to us and as we were leaving a large plate of Fish and Chips was making its way into the dining room.
Go get some
