amazing setting, you feel part of some royal family eating there. I had the "concert menu", which was fairly inexpensive (around 150 for 3 courses), but the food had nothing to rave about. the glass by the wine (60rmb, small pour) was good. The a la carte dishes look very french, and very good, but I haven't tasted them.
Outstanding place. The restaurant is fantastic, the wine selection is unbelievable, the bar is great and the ballroom is breathtaking. If you can go there only one day in your whole life, go on a sunday, watch the jazz concert enjoying your favorite wine and stay for dinnner. Unforgettable!
The restaurant was located on the top floor of Shanghai Opera House. Upon our arrival, the doorman in uniform met us with welcoming smile, promptly opening the door for us. As soon as we exited the elevator that took us to the upper level restaurant from the ground level entrance, we knew that we were in for a treat. Elegant and extensive flower bouquet right outside of the elevator was signaling us that this French restaurant was "Serious". A clean-cut dressed host greeted us with "Good afternoon, Mam". As turning to the left to the dinning room upon the host's escort, we instantly became speechless with the scenery in front of us. Exquisite chandeliers gracefully hanging from regionally vaulted ceilings, Baroque carved pastel white walls with golden fastidious ornaments attached on and seemingly the most exactly and delicately measured table setting were more than enough to take our breath away. We were immediately ushered to a fine top-clothed table in the middle of the plush brunt orange color carpeted dining room. I was retaining my usual calm manner but I was secretly screaming "Holly Cow" inside. This is the place where you want to make sure before being seated that you are not paying today, where you want to be proposed by your prince charming, and where you want to wine and dine every day enjoying your Cinderella moment.
(To be continued)
New adding to food addicts: Club Shanghai is open since a couple of weeks and provides flawless french fine dining. Again a strange situation similar to Laris: a little too much of an understatement in marketing. A friendly Chef, who does not fuss about his star rating in Germany, capable stuff including a sommelier who definitely knows what he is serving and a splendid location on top of Shanghai Concert Hall... basically good ingredients for a successful place. Pitty though that Club Shanghai is so poor on marketing, that there is not even a sign indicating the entrance. Pitty that there are only few lucky people to have tried whats been done in five different ways to a foie gras... and other VERY French stuff. They still lack of a good patissier - thus dessert was not top of pop.
anybody went up to now?
