Mint put house music on the map in Shanghai a couple years ago and although they are branching out with hip hop and mash ups to appeal to changing tastes in Shanghai, Mint still packs them in for their popular Wednesday Ladies Nights and on Fridays. Both the bar and the dance floor can get a little cramped, but they also have a nice terrace, and Mint is still a hot spot for younger European expats and locals.
wonder if there is anyone who has been to mint recently?i went there few times since i am in shanghai from last yr,wed night in mint is really good, very crowded, ppl eveyrwhere, but seems thats it ! all other days r not so busy anymore?! i wonder why?cuz sh got to many good places to go?i used to go mint alot...but now its so quiet there...
I don't call this a club..come on I put music in my bedroom and it will be a club too...
Too small, only one bar, and what could I say about the staff...so unfriendly, come on if you don't like your job go find another one. Seriously there are so many other good places, don't go waste your time there
Mint is by far the best place I've ever been...great music, unsophisticated crowd, very nice staff and a somehow especially talented management. If you just want to have good house music, dance, feel free and enjoy yourself is Mint the ideal place to be...(however you're doing it Charles...please never stop!!)
2 years ago Mint was THE place to be, the vibe was cool without pretention, the venue new and exciting, and the management fun and friendly.
Now Mint's had a face lift and the feel of the venue and staff has been recreated, if you go looking for the original you'll be disappointed, think of it as a fresh club and you'll understand why it's thriving.
They must be doing something right, it's packed at least 3 days a week and has lived through the fickle fancy of over two years of Shanghai clubbing.
Good job Charles!
Went to the re-opening last night. Pretty damn packed.
As for the changes, it seems like there a new mini room at the back by the two existing 'privatey' areas. The little raised platform area by the dancefloor has been changed, now has a few sofas and table... is this another pay table been added and another non-pay area taken away?
Outside deck is nicer, nice wooden decking. What are the other changes?
One major beef, it would have been really helpful if the closing could have taken the opportunity to sort the one major problem with the club... the ridiculous bathroom access situation where you have to cross the packed dancefloor, there and back - a total pain in the arse for toiletgoers and dancers alike!
Will someone fix the entrance doors there? Pleeeease! Have them open opposite to eachother or something! And Im never one to bitch against the design but cmon Mint is supposed to be one of the top joints in Shanghai, its so narrow!!! My living room is bigger!! No joke! And another thing on Wednesdays, Ive never seen so many guys. Thats bad!
The design and decoration of this place is cool, its nice , but if we came not at the right time, i think this isnt a place to be.
its super crowdedd. and people kept pushing you around.
impatient, yes.
I'm sorry but any place with only one bar does NOT qualify as a "club" in my book. At best, Mint can be described as an ultra-lounge, but most appropriately simply as a bar lounge. The dance floor? Barely larger than my bed. A group of us checked out Mint last Friday night and got ourselves a booth. The 950 RMB bottle of vodka (brand: Solid. Why? Apparently they must be running an exclusive promotion or something) was decent but not Grey Goose so I would've appreciated a wider selection to choose from. However, that may just be the American in me insofar as what I'm accustomed to having. The people? Better mix than Bar Rouge which was clearly and more heavily populated by sleezy old white foreigner men with their little Chinese whores in tow but still a bit reminiscent. The atmosphere was cozier, which is nice, and there were some good lookers, but on the whole, the place was too small and not enough was happening. The decor is nice, I admit, and so was our server, a friendly and helpful lad that he was. DJ? Horrible. The music was uninspiring and even if I'm not so much an audiophile as to distinguish just what genre he was mixing, I know that his music did get slightly better...RIGHT as all 14 of us were walking right out the door on our way to Windows.
Mint has been one of my fav clubs in shanghai. How funny to know people judge it as sucks becoz of the music. Each club has their own thing i guess, just like mint,as i know, its a place for house music. It's a place for people who like house music, who like the place or the crowd.I'm quite glad for the change of the crowd. Its changing from full of french people to a mix crowd which is a good thing(of coz i have no problem with french crowd ;p).but a mix crowd is better-my opinion. From my experience, mint gets busy usually after midnight. They have sweet PRs :).every time you walk in,you feel warm becoz they remember you and they will say hi to you, greeting you no matter which gender you are or who you are. That must be one of the reasons for people who keep going back to that place.Maybe some drinks' prices are a bit high tho, heh.I can't find anything to complain so far about this place.I enjoy my time when i go there.I suggest people who can't find anything valuable to comment, change the venue which would give other people a fair and clear image of the place. My final outline to mint: Nice layout-Good music(for people who likes house music)-Good service-Nice outside balcony to rest and breathe fresh air after a sweaty dance.

Glad to see I'm not the only one dissing mint - it was great when it first opened but is now no more than a step up from Windows (but with drinks 4 times the price) i.e. 10 cheesy guys for every girl in the place. As for the music - if you like your bland bland house music make a beeline - otherwise avoid.
Guys, remember Mint is a club, not a bar. Try to have fun in any club before Midnight, u'll b really disapointed.
Only local people? wow, people usually complain about Mint attracting only foreigners but that's right, early crowd is more Chinese. Come back to Mint on week end after Midnight u'll get the best music, excellent people and u won't care about having a comfy sofa with a little "reserved" sign on it. Mint rules!
Mint is so lint! (lint = LAME!!). My friend and I had heard such good things about the club but we were very disappointed. We got there around 10 or 10:30 on a Saturday night and the place had a few people, mostly Chinese. There were these empty comfy looking couches and booths all over the place but all of them had "reserved" signs on them and later we watched as these comfy seats were filled and not by any foreigners (I guess you need to be a local to know that you need to reserve the good seating - we were stuck in the corner on some stools staring at a mirror). Once again we had come from happy hour and we were feeling pretty "happy" and i don't remember if the drinks were expensive or cheap... i think i had a vodka redbull. the music wasn't good at all and the dj's were just sitting in the booth talking. my friend almost killed herself by tripping on a piece of unattached rug at the top of the staircase outside. overall rating C-
so far, mint the one of my favorite places to go to in shanghai. good atmosphere, CUTE bartenders and great drinks. ATTENTION, party people, the most important thing, its open until 6am on certain nights. personally, i prefer to go there after 11pm. this is deffinately one of the top places in shanghai.
I like Shanghai because of its nightlife. Never stop clubbing. The most place I go is Mint. I like it because it\'s a best place for party till sun rise. Everybody there is so high.. Mint is so great!
For me Mint is just the Temple of House music and the only place fo hear good music together with DKD. Mint and DKD rule! With a different style though. I like the crowd at Mint, beverages and girls ;)
