One of Shanghai's landmark buildings, the Peace Hotel was a glamorous, Art Deco hotel jewel in the crown of Sir Victor Sassoon. Its jazz musicians were legendary, as were the costume parties and general hi-society debauchery that happened in the luxury hotel. It fell into a long decline, but has recently been renovated and restored by the Fairmont Group. In July 2010, it re-opened, and its Jazz Bar, high-tea society Jasmine Lounge, Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, and original lobby and shopping arcade have had their former glory restored. Rooms are five-star, and the history and location are unbeatable. The Jazz Band performs daily 7.30-10.30pm.
The Fairmont Peace Hotel's Cathay Room serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2.30pm. Diners can choose from an a la carte selection of appetizers, mains, desserts and a cheese buffet accompanied by Champagne, wines and cocktails. 250rmb+15% inclusive of cocktails, beer and wine. 388rmb+15% with free-flow Champagne.
