Second Time Around: Cuisine Festival, Restaurant Week
By Christopher St Cavish, Aug 11th, 2010 | In Nightlife
September is the month for events in Shanghai. There are two food-related ones. The Cuisine Festival and Restaurant Week both debuted in the last 12 months, and they'll return this September.
By all reports, the former was pretty shaky, with unrealistically high entrance fees on top of a pay-as-you-play system to eat. Exhibitors griped in private.
Restaurant Week.... Restaurant Week. Don't know. They say they crowbar-ed 3,000 people into some of the city's fancy seats for their specially-priced RW menus. They're both going for Round Two, they're both a little wiser now, and they both dropped their prices -- Restaurant Week from 250rmb to 238rmb, and The Cuisine Festival from a 100-200rmb entry to FREE.
Restaurant Week's final list of participating restaurants and online reservation system will go live on August 17th. The Cuisine Festival's exhibitors tally 50+; see that list here. Exhibitors will still charge for tastings, but the organizers have pushed them to also do some free stuff. Marginally more info on RW here, and CF here.
