A Beach on the Bund

This picture above is not photoshopped. It was taken on Monday, across the street from The Waterhouse, a stone's throw from the Cool Docks. Someone has installed a beach. In a parking lot. And they are charging 20rmb to lounge on it. Sunny Beach is open for business!
In fact, not just anyone has installed this beach. According to Sunny Beach's employees, this is a government project. They have built a low concrete retaining wall, filled the space with sand, stuck ten chaises on top, and dubbed it a place of tanning and relaxation. It is the most brilliant thing to happen to Shanghai since the airplane bar.
Nevermind the moored Chinese dinner party boat, or the Cool Docks' parking lot next door, which may yet be turned into a riverside swimming pool. You can lay in the sun, gaze across at the magnificent.... apartment blocks, sip on 20rmb Cokes from Mythos (they handle the snack component), and take in the calming influence of the Huangpu river.
Click here and here and here for a few pictures of what progress looks like. And click here for Sunny Beach's scant details.
