R.I.P: Ponchiki

By Christopher St Cavish, Aug 25th, 2010 | In Nightlife

Like the unicorn, the quagga, and the desert bandicoot before it, another unique animal has gone extinct: the Shanghai Russian Donut.

Ponchiki has closed up their donut and pirogi operations for good -- after five months. Why? "Because we always lose money," says they. Ok. Fair enough. When your ten percent profit margin equates, in real terms, to 3 jiao, that was probably inevitable. At least we'll always have Krispy Kreme.

Rest in peace, sweet sweet Russian donuts.
