MAO Livehouse in November

By Morgan Short, Oct 12th, 2010 | In Dining

Seem to talk a lot about Mao Livehouse in the Wire here. Last one for a while. Promise. Check out their busy November. Pretty sure this is the busiest and most stacked month they've ever had. Lots o' stuff coming through Shanghai's largest music venue, including their one-year anniversary. Here's to hoping they can get their PR and club management on board with these bookings to take advantage of what's sure to be a crazy ass month.

Here's November at Mao Livehouse at glance:

Nov 5: Queen Sea Big Shark Album Release Show

China's premier dance/synth punk band play Shanghai for the first time in recent memory not bank-rolled by some fashion brand / "street wear" company. They're in town behind their new album.

Nov 6: Devics China Tour

Popular American band, slinging a style of music that really resonates with younger Chinese music fans: dream pop. Should be real precious.

Nov 7: Buyi 2010 New Album Tour

One of Beijing's rock mainstays makes it down to Shanghai for the first time in a long time, possibly ever. These folk rockers from Yinchuan can claim a 10+ year career in China and have played a series of major festivals in that span.

Nov 11: Wang Wen

The first name in Chinese post rock, Wang Wen always pack out the house when they come to Shanghai and deservedly so. They've just released a new album as well.

Nov 12: SMZB

Wuhan's SMZB are up there for China's longest-running punk band and definitely the country's most respected. Despite the fact that Shanghai completely lacks a real punk scene, this show should get whatever SH punk there are out there to see a rare show by the Chinese street punk kings.

Nov 14: The Raveonettes

Snotty Swedish garage rock two-piece. Not much introduction needed...

Nov 19: Mao Shanghai One-Year Anniversary

Celebrating their one-year anniversary, Mao Livehouse is hosting locals Plastic Chocolate and Sonnet -- the later a big draw for local fans -- along with a show by Perdel, a slick Brit pop act from Beijing. Perdel are super cute and super popular, so coupled with the fact that the show is free, expect that one to actually fill to capacity.

Nov 24: Zhou Yunpeng, Xiao He Album Tour

Two Beijing folk legends teaming up.

Nov 27: Multi-Ego, Forget and Forgive, My Chilly Hurt

A night of spazzy tunes and swoopy haircuts from three Chinese emo/screamo/crabcore/whatever bands. Should get the kids out. Shit is white hot these days.

Lots of stuff eh!
