The End of Ben
By Morgan Short, Nov 2nd, 2010 | In Community
Locally-based artist and composer Ben Houge has been one of the more interesting creative personalities in Shanghai for the past few years, both as a performer -- he's into canto pop and sound art -- and as an installation/ visual artist. He's had work shown and listened to at Art + Shanghai, Glamour Bar, The Nut, and a few others.
Alas, all good things come to an end, and Houge is moving on from Shanghai, hosting one final art exhibition and concert. In Suzhou.
In Suzhou at the True Color Museum to be specific, which comes at the culmination of his six-month artist's residency at the aforementioned museum.
It's called "The Point of Departure: Ben Houge Solo Exhibition" and will run from November 6-December 5, 2010.
What's he doing, you ask?Says Ben:
"The centerpiece is a new 15-channel real-time video installation (4-channel sound), plus there will be a few other visual works from the past 2 years.
Plus there will be a concert with friends in the afternoon of the opening: digital experimental fun with Wang Changcun (internationally active new media dude), Yao Dajuin (teaches at Hangzhou Art Academy, curated the main performance stage at eArts 2008), Xu Cheng (Torturing Nurse), and me (playing Jay Chou and other stuff). Should be fun, just a quick train ride from Shanghai!"
Here's the full press release. That's got all your information for the exhibition, the performance, and the address info of the venue in Suzhou.
Safe travels, Ben.
