Theatre at Chinatown: 'Noises Off'
By Morgan Short, Nov 23rd, 2010 | In Dining
Following their previous productions of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, cabaret club Chinatown returns with more British farce this December with a quick run of Michael Frayn's 1982 play, Noises Off.
Noises Off is a three-act comedy on comedy, in which each act revisits the first act performance of a fictional (terrible) romantic comedy from different points in the show's fictional run: a dress rehearsal, a matinee performance, and finally a performance at the end of the run. Farcical stuff ensues. Noises Off was well-received on both sides of the pond, winning a bunch of awards, and was later made into a film by Peter Bogdanovich (he of Last Picture Show fame), starring Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, and Christopher Reeve.
For the Chinatown production, a cast of familiar Chinatown faces (the indefatigable Chinatown Charlie, among others) is joined by a few local players, for a brief December run of the piece, December 7 to December 15.

British comedy, huzzah!
