So Streetz: Stussy Opens in Ssshanghai
By Morgan Short, May 6th, 2009 | In Shopping
Changle Lu is turning into quite the little mecca for sk8tr types with Icon X, Vans, and now Stussy opening stores on the popular shopping street (they're at 162 Changle Lu, near Shanxi Lu). Stussy, if you don't recall, comes in between Ocean Pacific and BAPE in the lineage of popular "streetwear" outfitters of our times -- clothes for people who might up and start breakdancing at the drop of a hat or grind out a bitchin olie if the mood arises.
If you stop by, therein ye shall find mesh hats galore, anti-establishment men's and women's urban wear designed specifically for the Shanghainese hood, and other assorted x-treme, to-the-max bric-a-brac and fodder. Wallet chains, maybe.
Do people still believe in paying nine million dollars for a mesh hat or some shoes because the designer has a bullshit quazi-manifesto on "street culture" on their website? Does that still happen? Is that still who we are?
On the other hand, if Chip and Pepper open up a shop in Shanghai, I'm there.
