Rumor Mill: Tara 57 Sold, Not Closing

by Christopher St Cavish
in Nightlife

So, there was talk in the last couple of weeks that boutique cocktail lounge Tara 57 was closing. And it was true. But it's not anymore. I just got off the phone with the owner, who was at the bank, transferring ownership when I called. She was exceedingly friendly and frank in telling me what's happening, which boils down to the joint has been sold to a loyal customer and it's no longer closing, but its most recent bartender, Mr. Lee, is out.

Lee was a great "mixologist", as much as I hate to use that word, but in the finer arts of bartending -- namely, being friendly and hospitable -- he was, well, a, little cold. But, whatever. What's important is that the new owner is a customer who appreciated Tara 57 for what it is -- high-quality cocktails -- and but for a few minor improvements like an eventual happy hour and a reining in of the prices, it's going to be business, and cocktails, as usual. Good news.

Tara's always been a go-to place if a more subdued atmosphere with one of the best cocktails in town was required. The great thing too was that it provided these comforts later than pretty much anywhere in town, especially midweek. Will look forward to visiting again soon!
