Hey Canucks, don't get overshadowed by that other country's birthday this week. Canada Day is Wednesday, July 1. Here's where to get deals on poutine and Canadian whisky.
Masse is throwing the biggest party for Canada's birthday, and pushing it to Friday night so everyone can respect it properly [read: party]. They've got BBQ burgers for 50rmb, hot dogs for 40rmb, plus poutine, Mousehead beer, and Canadian Club Classics for 30rmb. They promise "100% Canadian music content" -- hopefully that means more Arcade Fire, Unicorns, and Rush, and less Nickelback and Avril Lavigne. That goes from 6pm to late. Details.
Hungry Lung's moved somewhat recently from the quiet end of Yongkang Lu to face the noisy end on Jiashan Lu, where they still keep it chill (compared to the neighbors). This Wednesday, they're bundling one poutine and one Bloody Caesar for 100rmb. Their poutine has bacon and real cheese curds that Lung brings from his visits home. Poutine is available there year round, but the poutine + Caesar package is just Wednesday, from 11am-10pm.
All of Big Bamboo's locations in Jing'an, Hongqiao, and Jinqiao, are celebrating the maple leaf's ice hockey traditions. Instead of live games, they'll be airing Canada's greatest sports moments in history. Moosehead beers, Bloody Caesar's, and Canadian Club get all day happy hour. The sports bar apparently also has nice steaks imported from Canada, which will be 30% off. More info here.
Last and least is Canada Day Ladies' Night at Zapata's. They're putting deals on Fireball Whisky, on top of Wednesday's usual free flow margaritas for females. Those Fireball deals are for everyone, and anyone who is actually wearing a Canadian flag gets a free shot of Fireball before 9.30pm. That's on until late, with no cover.
Tock's original Henan Lu location has got a pretty decent deal on for the day, considering their famous Montreal smoked meat sandwiches can get up to 98rmb alone. Now you can get a sandwich or platter + poutine + Moosehead beer or maple affogato for 135rmb for a regular, or 155rmb for a monster amount of meat. More on that here. Unfortunately, the newer Nanjing Xi Lu location doesn't have french fries, so no poutine, but they will be slingin' Moosheads for 20rmb.
