Huge weekend for cycling. Factory Five and a wealth of sponsors organized what some are claiming was the largest Alleycat race in the world.
So many people and so much beautiful bikage turned up for Saturday's race that Sinan Mansions' bao'an got in a tizzy and tried to cancel the whole thing. Race organizers moved the start to the underground car park beneath Sinan Lu and things got under way, more-or-less on time, about 1pm.
Almost 600 riders competed, leaving in packs of 10 at one-minute intervals. The course was 25km, and these were the overall fastest riders and their times:
01. Daniels Langeberg with a time of 42mins 47seconds. He was riding a fixed-gear bike.
02. Ed Cork, 44:56
03. Troy Seeborn, 46:05
04. Alex Mok, 46:34 (fastest female)
05. Dirk Bekkering, 47:00 (fastest non-fixed-gear bike)
06. Ben Luo, 47:19 (fastest non-Shanghai-based dude)
07. Jerry Luo, 47:20
08. Simon Hudson, 47:57
09. Jiangbo, 48:10
10. Nick Taylor, 49:03
11. Tom Hitchings, 49:16
12. Rich Orlandella, 49:19
13. Peter Eland, 49:23
14. Stefanie Vallee, 49:53 (fastest non-fixed, female)
15. Sander Cole, 50:22
And some other notable achievements:
17. Maruzio Solaroli, 51:14 (fastest non-fixed guy not based in Shanghai)
45. Cerrissa Koza 57:52 (fastest non-fixed woman not based in Shanghai)
133. Perry Tsang 81:47 (fastest out of town, fixed, female)
On Sunday, the party was meant to take place at the Factory Five office, but due to overwhelming awesomeness, events moved to The BREW at the Kerry Hotel in Pudong. The day was dominated by track stand competitions, trick demos and sprint races. Let these names stand for all time:
Highest bunny hop winner - Big Mouth
Trick competition winner - Mo
Gold Sprints winner - Mo
In all, more than 100,000rmb in prizes were given out. Boxing Cat provided brews and burgers all day saturday, and even wangled a fancy location for the prize-giving ceremony. Some raced hard, others took their boozy time, but all made it back alive. One bike died but that was the only casualty we heard about. Check back later in the week and we should have some pictures from the events. Two wheels good...

Dirk (#5 fastest overall) is based in Shanghai, so he should be "fastest non-fixed guy not based in Shanghai." Trust me.chachachow, Apr 10th, 2012
