(Mostly Free) Community Events on for This Weekend

If you need a palate cleanser in between Bastille Day celebrations, here are a few feel-good community events. And 75% of them are free. Feels good already, huh? For this hot-sweaty weekend, there's the Summer Commune Market, an indoor(!) WeWork work-out, a DIY composting workshop, and some good old fashioned gaming. All but composting are free, but the soil pays for itself. Right? Read on for details.

Summer Commune Market


Summer Commune Market takes it back to the streets this July in Shikumen courtyard at Zhang Yuan on Taixing Lu. Come get your jewelry, leather bags, and green products at this fan-favorite market. As always, the Commune Market's keeping it fresh, with lots of gourmet food, specialty cocktails, craft beer, kids' activities, musicians, artists and more. Runs from 11am to 6pm. No entry fee.

Get a sneak peak at Shopbop's new gear for the summer season and top it off a free workout guided by professional trainers. Afterwards get a cocktail and mingle with fitness gurus and health bloggers at WeWork's summer party (WeWork on Weihai Lu). Starts at 12pm on Saturday, July 15. Free Entry. This ones for the hippies. Make your own compost bin with Zero Waste at Happy Buddha on Saturday, July 15. Here's a fact: composting can turn about 40% of your daily trash into healthy soil. So go on and learn how to turn your trash into your garden's treasure--you know, for the good of the planet and all that. Workshop runs from 10am-12pm and costs 150rmb and all materials are provided.

Whatever kind of gamer you are, there's something for you: video games, board games, tech talks and lectures, and plenty of VR experiences.
