Organizer Keturah Kendrick expresses her hope that men come and learn how the patriarchy works, “because we have to know it’s shape, moves and agenda in the minutest detail in order to survive it.”
This panel’s commitment to inclusivity is clear, with Kendrick describing fellow speaker Lilian Shen as a “queer and trans rights activist, who is quite bold and unapologetic in speaking on how those communities are impacted negatively” by patriarchal gender roles.
How does this event fit within China’s wider view of feminist activism? Speaker Fei Xu reminds us that China has no problem with activism, as long as it’s conducted within the law. “I don’t fear that feminist activism will be disallowed in China,” Fei says. “We always find a way out.”
