ShanghaiPRIDE is back to screen shorts from their June film festival and Best Friends China resume their monthly adoption day with 30 cats and dogs looking for a new home. Also some of the best medicine with Zainab Johnson, a Saturday Yoga-Brunch, and a documentary screening from Green Initiatives.

Green Initiatives Film Screening

Tomorrow night, Green Initiatives will have their August screening, this time it’s Mai Iskander’s documentary 'Garbage Dreams’. More on the film right here. Post-film there’ll be a panel discussion and some networking. Movie starts at 7.15pm and everything will wrap up around 9.30. Costs 20rmb for students, for everyone else: 50rmb pre-sale and 100 at the door.

Zainab Johnson's doing stand up at Kung Fu Komedy Club Friday and Saturday night. She's back after a successful China tour last year and she's pretty funny. Showtimes are 8.30pm on Friday, and 8pm and 10pm on Saturday. Tickets for 170rmb in advance, 200rmb on the door.

ShPFF 2017 Special Screening

It’s August, but ShanghaiPRIDE is still here [insert: confetti emoji]! Hosted by Modern Art Base, the top 6 short films from the Shanghai Pride Film Festival 2017 will be shown this Saturday from 2-5pm. Films include: A Girl Covered, Blooming Night, Cocoon, Kill the Gay, The Confession, and Two Men. After the screenings, Sol Ye, producer of Blooming Night will be there to answer questions. Free entry.

Yoga x Brunch: Chakra Detox

It's not Saturday without a Yoga Brunch! This one's at naked Hub on Hunan Lu, and kicks off at 9.30am with an hour Detox Yoga class. A healthy brunch will follow from 10.30am-12pm. Food, class, and a Lizzie's smoothie will cost you 177rmb.

Best Friends China Adoption Day


This Saturday you can adopt a furry friend from 2.30-7.30pm at Kerry Parkside. It's the usually-monthly-but-it's-been-too-hot-lately event put on by Best Friends China to get animals to a good home. There will be about 30 cats and dogs ready to give you unconditional love (the best kind). All adoptions are free but make sure you put some thought into it.
