Le Bordelais' 4th (5th?) Spot Opens, Midnight Burger's Open Too, and a Bunch More F&B Happenings
By Sep 15, 2017 Dining

It's another week in the city with the usual! Le Petit Bordelais has opened up, bringing the empire to a staggering four venues, Midnight Burger is in soft open, Mr. Banh Mi is shut, and it's District's second anniversary on Saturday! Whoop whoop. More after the jump.

Now Open

In case you missed the front page, The Blind Pig has finally arrived in Shanghai after a brief stint on Hongmei Lu, The Cut Rooftop is open, and Signor does really very good (but pricy) gelato. Check out what we thought here.

Le Petit Bordelais has just opened up on Xinhua Lu. That's like, the 4th venue? I guess 5th if you count the shuttered Wuding Lu location. By all accounts, it's a nice place! It's more of a winebar than the bistrot's the rest of the Le Bordelais Group is known for. Chilled music, lots of Bordeaux wine on offer (duh). Good for them, hey!

Very excellent burger joint Midnight Burger has opened its doors with an exceptionally rapid dash over the final stretch. They're in soft-opening as of today. Today! Their burgers are, according to an impromptu SmartShanghai office survey of one person, "juicy and delicious."

Now Closed

Vietnamese sandwich pop-up Mr. Banh Mi has shuttered its doors after an all-too-short run brightening up that glorious stretch of Wulumuqi Lu. Fret not, they'll be opening up again soon behind Golden Mall, and the concerns behind it are suggesting that this will be just the beginning of a Banh Mi empire. Possibly as many as four new ones by next summer.

Cu2+ will be closed for renovations from September 18. No word on how long that'll last. Hold fast, ye faithful.

T for Thai closed for renovations for 2 weeks.

The Word Around Town

Big West Coast coffee chain Peets is looks like it'll be opening up soon(ish) on Donghu Lu! Well, there's a hoarding up. And they're calling themselves "Shanghai's Boldest Newcomer." Which is, indeed, rather bold.

Meanwhile, Bull & Claw is doing this Sundowners free flow deal. It's every Wednesday from 5-8pm and it's 148rmb for free flow prosecco, house wine, rose and house lager, or 218rmb for free flow plus some stuff like IPAs, G'nTs, Aperol Sprtiz, Bloody Mary's, you know, 'premium' free flow.

Beijing's answer to Wagas, Moka Bros. is almost done moving in to their first location in Shanghai, right next to Beef & Liberty on Xiangyang Lu. They specialize in healthy eats and power bowls. Think we're checking that one out next week. With Moka Bros and Tribe right around the corner, it's like this little area is turning into Sanlitun South.

And, finally, Jing'an beer bar District is holding its 2 year birthday party. Bless 'em, they grow up so quick. From 4pm onwards, a 100rmb wristband gets you two drinks, their favorite foods passed around (they promise 'throwbacks') and access to drink deals and other 'surprises.'
