a Côté: Pizza with French Characteristics
By Justin Fischer, Mar 11th, 2011 | In Dining
In his attempt to gradually overtake the whole of Ferguson Lane, Franck Pecol, you know, the guy who owns Franck and Le Petit Franck, has opened up a new pizzeria. It's called a Côté and if I had to sum the place up in three words, they'd be "beauty in simplicity". There's so little to it and that's what I like about it. It's just one long communal table and a counter. To eat there's a choice of 12 different wood-fired pizzas and a green salad drizzled with aged balsamico. To drink, three wines by the glass (red, white, and rosé), a Provençal pastis, mineral water, coffee, and that's about it. Dessert appears to be strictly seasonal; right now it's fresh strawberries with vanilla cream - nothing more, nothing less - and it's absolutely delicious.
And in true Franck form, it's all scrawled on the a few blackboards. Admittedly, it's a little pricey. 12-inch pizzas go for 80-160rmb, but Franck has never been known to be cheap, so no surprise there, really. Nevertheless, it's tasty and it's pretty hard to beat the charming Euro ambiance. As the weather warms up, you can expect a few tables out in the courtyard, too. Certainly worth checking out. Here's the listing.
