Conveyor Belt of Life: Sushi Yano to Close End of Month
By Dec 4, 2018 Dining
In the second major news item to hit the luxury sushi market in less than a month, Sushi Yano on Yongfu Lu will wipe off its knives and stop with the fish at the end of December. The ultra high-end sushi house, which charged nearly 2,000rmb per person, is run by Yano-san, who is pushing 70 years old and wants to go back to Japan for his health. That follows the news from two weeks ago that Sushi Oyama has closed, and Oyama-san is also planning (maybe? maybe) to leave China. In their absence, we still have Japanese restaurant Kurogi, which will relieve you of about 3,000 rmb in exchange for dinner; Sushi Naramoto, which gets consistently high marks from the Dianping class and is downtown; and, perhaps more merciful, Sushi Maekawa, another proprietor-led joint where it is indeed possible to spend four figures on fish, but not necessary. And then there's pretty much all of Gubei, but that's another story. Wansui Yano, wansui.
