The space that used to Poppolo's QV on Jiaozhou Lu has gone through its refurnishing and is now instead Alimentari & Degusteria. The original Alimentari over on Anfu Lu (itself replacing a Feidan shop), has become a pretty popular cafe/import shop/deli, so they've got some experience with this type of shop. We'll see if it lasts longer than QV did.
Tock's Montreal Deli, of in-house smoked brisket fame, are opening up Tock's (Fengsheng Li) in that mini-mall on Maoming Bei Lu. It's serving the same mix of Reubens, smoked meat sandwiches poutine, and matzoh ball soup as the original, plus cocktail bar (a Maple Syrup Old Fashioned was mentioned), plus new menu items (a burger was mentioned). Welcome (back?) to the neighborhood, Tock's.
In news from the teetering edge of the world, Pudong sees the opening of a new Brut Eatery, the third of its kind. Here's what it looks like!
Highlight; all day brunch menu available and a kid's corner. Lovely.
Finally, hey, Ultraviolet is still really good. It's actually 41% gooder this year than last year, having jumped to spot number 24 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking. The list is basically the Oscars for F&B, maybe in more ways than one. Discussion for another time and another place, perhaps. Chris St. Cavish took a peek behind the scenes at Ultraviolet last year, when it was a mere 41st on the list, in case you're curious about what goes into Shanghai's consistently top-rated restaurant.
