Just a week after Liquid Laundry celebrated their two-year anniversary, we've got word that restaurateur extraordinaire Kelley Lee will open not one but two new spots around town.
Can't stop, won't stop!
First up for the Lee empire is a place in Xintiandi. She tells SmSh they're looking at an "Asian street food concept with Asian-inspired craft cocktails and craft beer". That's pretty broad at this point but we're excited to see what they come up with -- lots of room for creativity within the realm of Asian street food. That should open in August or September. After that, an LL spinoff will open at the Portman around October. No space for a brewery there, so that will be more of a taproom with a massive patio. "Food will be creative smokehouse with some overlaps from LL. No pizza though."
Also in Jing'an near Taixing Lu / Zhong Plaza, a bigger, better branch of seafood shop / poke bowl heaven Little Catch will open in late September / early October, says partner Jiayi Huang. Good news for you, bad news for fish.
Popular (only) batting cages bar Cages is closing on Thursday then re-spawning down the street in two weeks. They say: "Cages will be expanding into a new mega location just a block away at the Jing'an Sports Center." MEGA location -- yes.
Line Friends Cafe, the IRL home of anthropomorphic frogs, bears, and rabbits from the Korean messaging app, still has long lines most weekends, even a year after opening. There's a sign for a new Line Friends cafe right on Huaihai Lu, near Sinan Lu. Probably opening later this year.
Finally, is Fatburger ever going to open? Their "Coming Soon" storefront in Sinan Mansions has been collecting dust for like six months now.
What's up with that?
