This bar and cafe from the folks behind Shanghai Brewery sat behind the "Coming Soon" paneling on Changle Lu for so long I was beginning if it was ever going to open. But just before CNY it did, softly. The place harks back to the glittery heyday of Shanghai with a decor dappled in art deco motifs. Music skews more modern than it does modernist, though. I recall hearing The Cure and other bands that got me through highschool, on the sound system.

For the moment, the menu is limited. There is a selection of eight pressed sandwiches. You've got choices like salami with cheddar, spinach, and jalapeño on ciabatta or ham and cheese with dijonnaise. They're decent enough, toasty gooey, pretty hard to mess up. They'll run you 50 to 60 kuai.
