Two Food Pop-Ups This Weekend: Panda Pigs & Bun Mi Sandwiches

Check it out, hipsters. There's two culinary pop-ups happening in the Xinle Lu x Xiangyang Lu hood this weekend: a Hunan affair by Nat Alexander's Yang Jing Bang at Pirata, and a Vietnamese "Bun Mi" sandwich by Burger Babes at Strictly Cookies. Read on for menu details and pixx.

Yang Jing Bang x Pirata: Hunan Taste


Saturday, March 5, 12-4pm


Yang Jing Bang is the crew who did that pop-up at Egg a couple months ago; the one with the really good pastrami. Basically it's Westerners bastardizing Chinese food but using good ingredients and love. This time they're getting into Hunan food and showcasing another heritage pig, the Two Black Head pig, a.k.a. the "panda pig", a.k.a. the pig they use to make Jinhua ham. On kitchen duty are Nat Alexander, Ling Huang (Pirate) and Ye Chen.



The menu includes a Signature Porchetta Sandwich with Pickled Green Beans, Double Pepper Aubergine Caviar on Crisp Rice Toast, Oil Poached Gambas “al ajillo”, Bone-free Lazi Ji Spicy Fried Chicken Wings, and Boulevard craft beers. Selections from 40rmb.

Strictly Cookies and one sandwich UMi Bunwich


Friday, March 4 @5pm - March 27 (Thur-Sun only)


The diabetes factory on Xiangyang Lu is getting into sandwich territory, starting with a collaboration with The Ladies Formerly Known As Burger Babes tonight at 5pm. They're doing a "Vietnam BUN-MI, a chip-encrusted brioche bun cradling caramel pulled pork, pickled daikon and carrots, toasty peanuts, crispy shallots, and a dash of lime." The sandwich is 45rmb, and a combo with a cookie and a drink is 60rmb.

After this month, Strictly Cookies might do a sushi burrito collaboration with Little Catch. Cowabunga, dude...
