Valentine's Day Dinner Round-Up 2016 Vol. 1: The Higher End
By Jan 28, 2016 Dining
Heads up, people in brand new relationships who have yet to experience how the inexorable and immutable passage of time, eventually and unavoidably, drives a permanent wedge between oneself and all possibility for love, happiness, and companionship, February 14 falls on the final Sunday of the CNY vacation, and you should probably think ahead to book a restaurant.

SmSh will be on holidays then -- probably wallowing in a black pit of loneliness and despair, depending on if we can get a good travel deal -- so let's get this going early. This list covers some of the swankier, diamond-encrusted places where you'll likely need an early RSVP to get a spot. Next week we'll have a list of mid-range options.

1. Mr and Mrs Bund is always a strong look for French fine dining on The Bund. They have brunch menus from 488rmb per person and dinner menus from 888rmb per person.

..................................

2. Still at Bund 18, one floor below, Hakkasan has a Cantonese Valentine's Day dinner with duck skin and pan-fried foie gras, braised baby abalone, roasted pork fried rice, and more for 999rmb per person.

..................................

3. At Five On The Bund, M on The Bund has a crispy suckling pig, pumpkin Tortellini, and foie gras terrine for 588rmb+10% per person. Next door, Glam has an eight course sharing menu for 788rmb per couple.

..................................

4. Continuing the Bund countdown, at Three on the Bund, POP has a four course menu with two glasses of Prosecco for 1088rmb+10% per couple, and for an Italian option, Mercato's Valentine's Day dinner is 1314rmb+10% per couple, including some kind of Tom Ford perfume set. Finally, CHI-Q has a Valentine's Day-themed Korean BBQ for 1196rmb+10% per couple and Unico has a five-course meal for 1314rmb+10% per couple.

..................................

5. For Spanish and Mediterranean, Elefante and el Willy have similar options, with oysters, suckling pig, and two complimentary cocktails for 998rmb per couple. Then over near Nanjing Xi Lu, Tomatito has a seven course sharing menu for 499rmb per couple.

..................................

6. On Fengxian Lu, Husk has meatier options including clams, tiger prawns, salmon, BBQ perch, tempera oysters, and grilled Australian Wagyu flank steak in their five course sharing menu. Price is 888rmb per couple.

..................................

7. We called The Nest. They're open on Valentine's Day and still have seats available, but they don't have any kind of special set menu. Still, it's a strong look.

..................................

For the true ballers who wanna drop 4,000rmb per person? Well, sorry, according to their booking website, Ultraviolet is closed until Feb 16, with no seats available until Feb 17.

Again, if you wanna get down on these, maybe RSVP earlier than later. Or don't. We're just putting this out there. If none of that sounds like your bag, we've got many more choices on our Valentine's Day events page. Look out for part two next week.

look at it this way…that's 13 pieces of Avacado toast at EGG….or 10 bowls of overpriced noodles from one of their DJ buddies!
