It is, far and away, my favorite brunch spot in the city. A hefty breakfast platter for like 72rmb, complete with French toast and ham drowning in maple syrup, the blue-collar diner vibes, the gruff professionalism of the staff, the coffee filtered through a gym sock. Not a free-flow mimosa deal in sight!
Their first new spot is AE Kitchen on Yongkang Lu, where they're sharing a store-front with Tap House, adding waffles, pancakes, eggs, and the rest of the AE Kitchen ouvre to the roster. The other, AE Brew, is a stone's throw from People's Square. It's more of a bottle-o and a coffeeshop, sporting actual latte art! Classing it up, I see. The slogan remains "Not Just Brunch!" Oozing identity crisis, that. A desperate need to be more. A.E. Kitchen, the tortured artist of the all-day breakfast world. Hail the growing AE empire!
