It's nearly that time of the year again! Mainland China's biggest jazz festival
returns this weekend for the fifteenth year in a row, which in Shanghai time is a geological era, bringing genres like jazz, blues, funk, soul, pop, rock, latin, fusion and alternative together. This year it’s at the Maxus Plaza
in the Disney Complex. Why so far? No clue! Also, there are four stages this year. Ren Yuqing told us back in April
that any downsizing is due to the festival "becoming more authentic." But it's three days long instead of two, Sep 13 to Sep 15
, since Friday falls on Mid-Autumn Festival.
This year's line-up includes Marcus Miller, Lalah Hathaway, Jacob Collier, Jasmine & Her Jazzmen, Alec Haavik and the Shanghai Shindiggers, Tia Ray, and Al McKay's The Earth, Wind & Fire Experience (!). Tickets to JZ Festival
are already on sale over on SmartTicket. Full line-up after the jump.
Here're some pictures of joyous, ecstatic attendants of previous JZ Festivals.
