June 20-21 @ On Stage
The Chicago Tribune called Philadelphia native Kurt Rosenwinkel "one of the most widely applauded guitarists of the under-50 generation". That's pretty good. Lots of dudes with guitars out there. At the age of 20, he dropped out of the Berklee College of Music to tour with vibraphonist Gary Burton’s band, a coveted spot and launching pad for some of jazz’s most influential guitarists, including Larry Coryell, Mick Goodrick and Pat Metheny. This exiting young talent returns to China with his trio, after wowing the crowds at JZ Fest last year. Starts at 9.30pm. Tickets are 180rmb.

June 24 @ MAO Livehouse
Legacy post-rock innovators God Is an Astronaut bring their "sonic snapshots" to Shanghai. Coming off over a decade’s worth of critically acclaimed post-rock/electronica releases since forming in 2002, they’re latest is 2015’s Helios/Erebus. Expect an evening of beautiful swells and cathartic moments from this world-traveling act. Nice one. Get your tickets earlier rather than later -- these post rock shows are really popular with the kids and tend to sell out in advance of the show. Pre-sale tickets are 260rmb.
July 1 @ MAO Livehouse
Coming back for the fourth of fifth time to China, Swedish twee pop/electronic band The Radio Dept. make their return to the stage in Shanghai at Mao Livehouse. The Radio Dept. are in the fold of big-time Swedish indie label Labrador Records (also home to Club 8, The Sound of Arrows, and Suburban Kids with Biblical Names), and broke on an international level when three of their songs popped up on the soundtrack of Marie Antoinette (dir. Sophia Coppola, remember?). Expect a night of buzzing shoegaze and electronica. Starts at 9pm. Tickets are 200rmb.
The Radio Dept - "Never Follow Suit"
July 1 @ The Pearl
Not dropping the beat from their successful tributes to ABBA, Motown, and Prince (Rest In Purple), The Pearl stages another tribute performance, this time to the masters of psychedelic rock The Doors. Shanghai’s own Frank Bray produces, directs, and performs in this one, along with a cast of musicians from the local community. Two nights of shows only. Break on through! Starts at 9pm. Tickets are 180rmb.
As always, SmartTicket delivers to your door and you can pay in cash. Many more shows to check out on our ticketing page.
