TELL EVERYONE

Greetings Shanghai, we're back again with the live music preview for shows on city stages this week. A fair amount of diversity this week -- a bit of punk, a bit of surf, and a bit of... "miscellaneous". Let's get into it.

***

1. (the) Other, Little Monster, Second River, and Ugly Girls on Thursday, April 7 @ Yuyintang

Shanghai-based experimental label, Bipolar Records hosts a showcase with three solid local rock bands, plus a brand new one to boot. Alex of Dirty Fingers and F formerly of Pairs make up the band Little Monster, which takes a few ques from the aforementioned Pairs -- let's call them "shitgaze" -- but adopts a wider focus on song structure. Bipolar Records frontman Adam Cah leads the way with his effusive experimental project (the) Other. Second River is an experimental group that features former Non Plus Color bassist Da Bai. Performing for the first time is Kungfuology's own Andy Best in a new band that goes by the name Ugly Girls. Music is that punk rock. Door charge is 30rmb and the show starts at 9pm.

2. Casino Demon and Round Eye Friday, April 8 @ Yuyintang

Long-running Beijing indie / garage rock band Casino Demon are in town Friday, April 8 at Yuyintang, playing in support of their new album put on Modern Sky, "Purple Haze from the Orient". Expect a large crowd -- these guys have been around and feature former members of Chinese rock legends Joyside in the mix. Check out a new music video for the album here. Opening up are Shanghai expat rockers Round Eye, who also have a hot new video in the works. The concert starts at 9pm and is 100rmb at the door or 80rmb pre-sale.

3. The Psyders, Life Line, and Limousine on Saturday, April 9 @ Yuyintang

Garage / surf rock gods The Psyders have put together a Yuyintang show titled 'They're Back...' on Saturday night. With his trusty Jaguar Fender guitar, frontman Misuzu has been dropping his brand of on-beat surf rock via The Psyders in Shanghai scene since 2013. Supporting on the bill are local expat troupe Limousine made up of a Canadian, a Scotsman, a French, and a Spaniard. International line-up. Rounding out the night are hard rock outfit Life Line. The show is 40rmb at the door with no pre-sale and starts at 9pm.

4. SFDF - Shanghai Rock Bands Night on Saturday, April 9 @ Live Bar

Yangpu venue Livebar is apparently still open, and they're offering a free buffet of Shanghai rock, punk, and hardcore bands this Saturday. Music by Pinball City, Scorpion Prisoner 69, Dirty Fingers, Goushen, Roundeye, Spill Your Guts, and special guest The Bonesinner. If you want a sampler of the Shanghai rock scene, this is a good one to check out. That's pretty much all of them. Starts at 7.30pm. No cover.
