Curtain Falls Suddenly on Above The Globe
By Dec 5, 2018 Nightlife
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, as I foretold you, were all spirits and are melted into air, into thin air. After one and three-quarter years of slinging Shakespearean-themed cocktails in a cozy industrial nook above the McKinnon Hotel, Eddy Yang's Above the Globe has closed down. Sounds like logistical shenanigans. The Sleep No More people needed to take the whole floor back anyway for something happening in 2019.

Opening just a few months before the tragic demise of the first Tailor Bar, this space wore the Bard's influences on its sleeves, from the tripartite cocktail menu to the name referencing Old Bill's theater. The great Globe itself! Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve. Like this insubstantial pageant faded, it leaves not a rack of barrel-aged cocktails behind.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? Eddy says he's looking for a new space for the future. It won't be Above the Globe, Act ii ("there is only one The Globe Theater", says he says), but they're thinking of keeping ATG as the name of their future project.
