Checked out the new-ish Beer Bear on the south end of Danshui Lu last night – a small spot that serves nothing but craft beers and a few wines. Nothing fancy here, just a few tables outside next to a fruit stand with a cute cat running around. Five taps, with all the bases covered, including Fullers London Porter, Vedett IPA, a light wheat beer, another ale, and…something. Here's the best part – before 9pm, all draft beer is 30rmb. Sitting outside drinking a 30rmb pint of good beer – not a bad look.

Danshui Lu is the younger, tamer sibling of Yongkang Lu. An old Chinese street with little bars and restaurants interspersed with fruit stands, dry cleaners, and noodle shops. Unlike Yongkang, most bars on Danshui are owned by locals, and the clientele mix is almost 50/50. Also, less white rage.
