More Venue Shutdowns: JZ Club, Constellation Julu Lu, Island6 Bund
By Apr 8, 2016 Nightlife
Fans of JZ Club – you've got 40 days to enjoy their current venue on Fuxing Lu, which has been open since December 29, 2004. In a WeChat post this morning, JZ announced that the club will close on May 15, due to the government reclaiming the building. We can expect a newer, bigger, faster, stronger JZ Club to open "maybe three months later", though they haven't decided on a location yet. Of course, they've still got three venues in Shanghai (JZ Latino, Wooden Box, On Stage) plus JZ Clubs in other cities like Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Guangzhou.

Man, Pauly from Masse was really spot on when he predicted that "a lot of places will follow the same path" as his recently shuttered club. Let's look at what else is going on.

Rumor on the ground is that part of Julu Lu could face a similar situation as Shaanxi Nan Lu, which we wrote about a few weeks ago. Constellation 6 is already closed, despite opening just a few months ago. Other venue owners we spoke with, who prefer to remain anonymous, say the situation is still up in the air and they're hoping for the best.

Finally, contemporary art / neon sign factory island6 recently closed their Bund gallery. According to one employee of the venue, "The government took over the space about a month ago… they simply wanted to use the space for something else."

More info as we get it.
