In observance to the freshly banned in the UK Human Centipede II: Full Sequence, allow us to point you in the direction to some other banned in the UK cinema entertainment showing at Dada bar tonight: Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship and Videotape
'What's that about?', you're asking, furtively.
"In 1984, the British government drew up a list of 72 films which it deemed so reprehensible that they should be banned. Anyone found in possession of a copy, or actively distributing one of the films, could face a prison sentence. Jake West’s Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship and Videotape is the definitive documentary about these 72 films, and investigates the real reasons for the censorship and the effect the banning of these films made."
Here's a plot description of one of these banned films, La Maldicion de la Bestia.
"Waldemar Daninsky goes to Tibet to look for proof that the yeti exists. He gets captured by two vampire women who turn him into a werewolf. Waldemar's friends are then kidnapped by a witch, and later, he fights a yeti."
Sounds terrific, eh?
Sub-Cinema hosts yetis, chainsaws, cannibals, boobies, and more. Tonight at Dada. No entry fee. Starts 9pm.
