Shanghai's coziest, down-to-earthiest craft beer spot Jackie's Beer Nest
on Zhaozhou Lu, the original, has finally closed down. Cool beer uncle Jackie
has had a rough time of it in recent years, after a short-lived spot
in Pudong, and his ambitious Jackie's Beer Nest 2
barely making it a year
. He's like the anti-no zuo no die. The man's a crusader. Despite constant worries that the original basement Laoximen location was for the chop (there have been close calls
going back to 2013), it always seemed to pull through. Originally opened in 2010, it was a cramped, tiny little spot with a lot of heart. It seems that it took the entirety of Laoximen getting demolished to see him off. But fear not, fans of beer-with-a-soul. There're already rumors he's got a new spot in the works. Jackie wansui!
