10-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend was born child prodigy in 1978, getting his musical career start with his grandmother teaching him the piano. Legend became an in-demand session musician and songwriter, working with such artists as Alicia Keys, Twista, Kanye West, and Janet Jackson. Legend’s debut album, 2004's Get Lifted, went platinum thanks in part to the hit single “Ordinary People,” a song that he originally penned for the Black Eyed Peas. The album also landed him the Grammy for Best New Artist for that year.
