Friday

SHFT pres. Virtual Riot

Valentin Brunn (AKA Virtual Riot) is hitting off his China tour with a stop in Shanghai on Friday. SHFT is hosting him in at that underground club below the ground (AKA Arkham). Having started out as a bit of a big deal on SoundCloud and going on to sign with Disciple Recordings just over a year ago, the classically-trained young German DJ has worked with the likes of Skrillex and Excision. Critics have called his music "non-traditional" and "edgy," and we'll append "lit." E-tickets 100rmb presale, and the doors slam open at 10pm.

Bad News pres. Fuseland China Tour 2017 feat. re:plus and Emily Styler

re:plus is a music project orchestrated by huge-in-Asia musical phenomenon Hiroaki Watanabe. It's does a bit of everything, with inspiration drawn from breakbeat, house, hip hop, jazz, accoustic, electro and more. After massive success in Japan and Korea, they're landing in Shanghai in support of their album Miscellany, joined by Emily Styler, a fellow hip hop/jazz chart topper from Japan. Presented by Bad News, presale e-tickets are 180rmb, and the show starts at 8.30pm at MAO Livehouse.

Saturday

DJ Gammer

DJ Gammer (real name Matt Lee) is a UK hardcore and hard dance producer and DJ. He made his debut on the hardcore scene in 2002, and has since shot to prominence with an extensive discography on the revamped Essential Platinum label, becoming a leading artist in UK hardcore. Recent choonz have see the producer moving more into Hard Dance territory. Expect a frantic night in the club with Gammer’s first-ever appearance in Shanghai. E-tickets are 100rmb presale, and the heavy sounds kick off at 10.30pm.

Anigma pres. MEGA SENS w. Daddy G and Funk D’Void

Brand new Bund hotel W Hotel on the Bund has planned a two-day launchstravaganza; day one's a nighttime affair, while day two is the pool party. The pool party. DJs Daddgy G from Massive Attack headlines day one, alongside Redshape and Shanghai's very own Cavia. That runs from 9pm-3am at the WOO Bar. The day after (or technically the same day, kind of), there's a pool party at the Wet Bar from 2pm to 8pm. Ben Huang will be joining UK DJ Funk D'Void to provide the music. Both events'll have a bunch of installations and "other surprises."

Sunday

Water Heavens: An Architectural Music Experience

If you're looking to get out of the city for a bit, outlying water-town Zhujiajiao's Water Heavens Hall is hosting a cool water-themed music performance. Did we mention there's water involved? Conceived by Grammy Award-winning composer Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero), it's combines Bach dialogues with Buddhist monks, rock'n'roll with strings and pipa, and water percussion, set in a hall that's as much a fusion of different styles as the music. Tickets range from 180rmb to 880rmb and all tiers in-between.
